THE new bus introduced in Falmouth after cuts to other services left passengers high and dry, has been welcomed by many who have been making good use of the circular route it offers.

The 329 service was brought in by Tim Light's Fal River Cornwall last month and runs from and to The Moor via Falmouth Town station, Woodlane and Gyllyngvase Beach. Mr Light has been “overwhelmed” by the support the service has received from customers.

Pensioner Janet Mitchell, a regular passenger, said: “I think it's wonderful that Fal River Buses have taken on the route. I told the driver he was making loads of old ladies in Falmouth very happy.

“Living at the top of Old Hill, I use the service at least three times a week to get into town and also to pop over to Gyllyngvase. Without it, walking back up from town with shopping would be really difficult.”

Mr Light said: “We are really delighted that the service has been well received. We should care more about the elderly in our society. Many of them aren't car drivers and the bus offers their only opportunity to get about.”

He thanked Falmouth Town Council for its support of the service - councillors have agreed to jointly underwrite any losses up to £6,000.
