Villagers in Ponsanooth showed real community spirit after the village shop was left under two feet of flood water.

When residents heard about the flooding, which also affected several other houses in the village, about 20 got together to help clear out the mud and water, and to carry out any items that could be salvaged.

Michelle Firminger, who runs the shop and lives behind it, said: “I can't get over the way people have come together, it shows what people in Ponsanooth will do to help.

“I know the people here but they're not particularly close friends, but everybody just steps in.

“The shop has just been refurbished, and everybody's just trying to do whatever they can to get things sorted.”
