Season ticket holders in Helston will be able to save more than £200 on their annual subscription - but for a limited time only.

Cornwall Council is reducing the price of its season tickets in many of its car parks, during a three-month trial designed to see if more drivers will buy them, including those who do not currently use car parks.

Between Thursday, January 2 and Monday, March 31 next year motorists will be able to buy season tickets valid for 12 months.

In Helston this means that for all long stay car parks the price will be £250, with Castle Green costing £200.

This is compared to the 2013/2014 prices, which ranged from £200 to £470 .

However, the offer is only available during the first three months of the year. Motorists who have already bought a season ticket will be able to apply for a pro rata refund.

The season ticket trial is one of three pilot schemes being introduced in council car parks over the next six months, following the decision of the council to set aside £1.2m to underwrite any losses arising from the experiments.

These tariffs could become permanent if the trial schemes prove financially viable.

Another pilot parking scheme will give all motorists the option of using their mobile phone to access 30 minutes free parking in all council car parks between Saturday, March 1 and Sunday, April 20.

Councillor Bert Biscoe, Cornwall Council portfolio holder for transport and waste, said: “Cornish towns rely on commerce and commuters to create the prosperity which they generate.”
