A theatre group from Gweek is celebrating with lights of a different kind this Christmas.

Rather than fairy lights, the Gweek Players have been able to buy lights, lamps and a back projector for performances, as well as upgrade the electrical system at the hall.

It is thanks to a £4,000 grant from the Goonhilly Wind Farm Community Fund, which |supports groups across the TR12 postcode area.

Operator REG Windpower donates £48,000 each year to support good causes in the local community.

The theatre group Gweek Players successfully applied for funding to upgrade their equipment at Gweek Village Hall.

Founded in 1984, the group will have the new lighting for their 30th anniversary |performance in May next year, where they will perform a play written specifically for the group.

Aline Turner, who is with the Gweek Players, said: “We are very excited to receive this grant funding from the Goonhilly Wind Farm Community Fund. With |funding we no longer need to hire lighting equipment, |allowing us to work with the lighting leading up to |performances and focus our resources on costumes and |set.

“It is fantastic to receive this support for the Gweek Players’ 30th anniversary.”

Other groups to benefit include St Keverne Male Voice Choir, Mullion Cricket Club, Sunshine Café Memory Club, St Keverne Village Hall, Gweek Village Hall, and the Mawgan Recreation Ground and Hall.

The deadline for |applications for the next round of grants is March 31, 2014.
