Storms have left Tregony Congregational Chapel needing repairs of up to £3,000.

One of the large windows has been completely blow in, causing extensive damage to the carpet, furniture and heating system. Further damage was caused to another window.

While church leaders hope that insurance cover will be sufficient to pay for the damage caused, the incident has prompted the start of a fundraising campaign to replace the other windows in the chapel.

It is thought this work will cost in the region of £2,000 to £3,000.

Chapel members are beginning the fundraising with a Viennese Evening on Saturday, January 11, consisting of a DVD of the famous Viennese Orchestra accompanied by cheese and wine.

Ladies are expected to wear their best evening dresses while gentlemen must wear dinner jackets and black ties, or smart lounge suits.

There will be no actual admission charge but generous donations will be gratefully accepted.

This event will be followed on Saturday, January 25 with a celebration of the Scottish poet, Robert Burns at a Burns Night.

Haggis, together with “neeps and tatties” will be served, accompanied by music and poetry. Tickets for this event are £7 as the evening features a three course meal.

Both events will start at 7pm and all are welcome.

To book contact either David and Amanda Goldsworthy on 01872 530641 or Des and Joan Mennear on 01872 530357 for tickets in advance, for catering purposes.
