Council support for mobile homes on land off Helston relief road

Falmouth Packet: Council support for mobile homes on land off Helston relief road Council support for mobile homes on land off Helston relief road

THE owner of Crasken Round off Helston Relief Road has applied for permission to continue using land to station mobile homes.

Duncan Sim has asked for an Existing Develoment/Use Lawful Development Certificate for the round piece of land where caravans and converted vehicles have been sat.

The application relates to vehicles that are of a “transient, not permanent nature.”

Members of Helston Town Council’s planning committee recommended this be approved. A final decision will be taken by Cornwall Council.

I would think this is the obvious answer to providing transient pitches for the peripatetic communities, including seasonal foreign workers. However, as the site will not be council owned nor provide permanent pitches, it does not in my view solve the problem of re siting anyone currently residing in a vehicle within a public car-park on a permanent basis. I do not believe legally the council can remove people from living in vehicles in car-parks unless the council themselves can provide alternative permanent pitches for them.
I think the town council are doing the right thing in approving this site, but still need to provide permanent pitches somewhere.

You have the advantage over me Rainbow as you clearly know who I am but I still have no idea who you are, although I am fairly sure by your comments, you are someone that worked for the same employer as me years ago, that would explain your knowledge of my full name.

Yes I was married to a ginger haired gypsy until he died, we did however always live in houses and he had a full time job. His mothers family originated from Ireland.
My private life (which suddenly does not seem so private) would never influence my decisions or opinions on things such as the topic of the article. I just personally believe that Cornwall Council needs to address the problem of lack of sites for permanent or transient use, and Helston Town Council supporting the above application for transient pitches, is in my view a good start, which I hope will subsequently be supported by Cornwall Council.

Speaking from experience, I personally would advise Helston Town Council to fully establish the precise time limit for 'transient' pitches if they do not wish the site to transpire into permanent pitches!

Sorry Gill, i only meant i thought you would support the idea because you would understand the need. You are right, i used to work at JHI. I am only in Helston while my daughter is a student. I first recognised who you were by your spelling of apologise with a z. Wasnt sure about your name because i knew your middle name was r z not just z. I remember all the writing we had to do in the postal dept at JHI because nothing was computerised in those days.
I wonder if the people on the May tree estate will like overlooking this site though with pitches of caravans etc.

Thanks meerkats, I personally would not give out anyone else's personal information/business on a public website, but I have nothing to hide so no harm done.

GZM is right about the establishment of a time-line. I have seen a lot of these places where transient homes are temporarily set up, and many years later they are still there. At what point do they become permanent dwellings and subject to the applicable laws the rest of us have to follow?
