Lightning strikes have set a home on fire near Higher Crackington, between Camelford and Bude.

Two fire appliances from Bude and two fire appliances from Delabole were called out just after 11am this morning following a report of a pair of semi-detached houses that had been struck by lightning.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus investigated the roof area of one of the properties, where there had been a fire.

There was smoke-logging to the second of the two-storey properties.

A spokesman said: "Electricity and telephone engineers have been requested to isolate services to the buildings due to damage caused by the lightning.

Considerable damage has been done to the roof of one of the properties,.

Small tools, a triple extension ladder and a thermal imaging camera were used to make the scene safe. Six firefighters from Bude currently remain on scene, western Power engineers and BT engineers are in attendance.
