An emergency helicopter charity in Cornwall has offered its services amid ongoing bad weather and flooding.

Heli-Aid, based at St Breward near Bodmin, has said it is “prepared to assist” with its new helicopter throughout Devon and Cornwall, should the situation arise.

The charity was formed in 1991, with the helicopter listed with the fire and rescue services and Cornwall Council’s emergency planning team.

Heli-Aid uses a helicopter from Moorgoods Helicopters Ltd. Previously this was a two-seater Schweizer 269C, which was mainly used as a trainer, but has recently been upgraded to a four-seater Robinson R44 Raven II to offer more versatility and performance.

It is overseen by managing director, chief pilot and instructor, Captain Kevin Foster.

Although the new helicopter is not an all-weather helicopter, Captain Foster is offering its services for any emergency situation – including being a “runner” with messages when telephone lines are down.

The helicopter is currently on lease, but the charity has an option buy that must be taken up by January 19. Therefore the directors are looking for investors in shares of the helicopter, to keep it running. They can invest for financial return or use of the helicopter, or both.
