The search is on for objects and documents which illustrate what life was like in Constantine during World War I.

Constantine Heritage Centre is seeking artefacts and information relating to the period for a commemorative exhibition to run from June until December 2014.

Heritage centre volunteers are asking for photographs and objects relating to women’s roles during the war, including organising aid for the troops and working in local industries or on local farms.

They are also interested in information related to the Helford River, such as trigging for cockles, the conversion of fishing boats to minesweepers, and U-boat activities off the Lizard Peninsula, as well as artefacts relating to the airships from RNAS Culdrose at Helston.

The exhibit also needs documents from the end of the period, when the war memorial was constructed and troops were welcomed home in 1919, and information on the 70 servicemen who returned to the village after the war.
