Preparations are already underway for Helston’s famous Flora Day, and at Helston museum they have decided to create a woolly tribute to the town’s big day.

Staff have set a challenge for the people of Helston and beyond to “Knit Flora Day”, with a plan to fill the art gallery with knitted Flora Day dancers as part of an exhibition about the ancient tradition.

People are being asked to knit pairs of dancers to form an exhibition, with one of the organisers having already knitted the front of the museum.

The museum will host a knitting and crochet day on Saturday, January 18, to launch the project, and there will be patterns and wool available for those want to take part.

Open to complete beginners, everyone is welcome to pop along for help or advice, and there will even be a demonstration of how to knit with broom sticks.

The free knitting workshop at the museum will run from 10am -3pm, and visitors can pop in any time.

You can also get the pattern by emailing knitflorday@aol.com and more information is available on the Helston Museum Facebook page.
