Helston Town Band will continue playing under interim conductors for the time being following the |resignation of its musical director.

Last week the Packet revealed that Derek Johnston had handed in his |resignation less than six months after taking up the post.

The band has now issued an official statement saying: “We would like to thank Derek for all he’s done in the last six months and wish him the very best for the future.

“The band is carrying on getting ready for the area contest in March. There will be interim musical directors or conductors to aid them until that time.”

It is expected that a new musical director will be appointed in due course, following an interim period.

The band continues to go from strength to strength, with appearances lined up for the coming months and the new concert band, introduced by Mr Johnston, proving popular.
