Election called for Helston council seat

First published in News

An election will take place to fill the vacant seat on Helston Town Council after enough people wrote to request one.

It follows the resignation of Lloyd Harris in December, for work and health reasons.

The vote for a new north ward member will take place on March 6.

Anyone wanting to put their name forward must apply through Cornwall Council’s electoral office in Dolcoath Road, Camborne.

In order for an election to be held a total of ten people on Helston’s electoral role had to make a request in writing, to town clerk Chris Dawson, by January 3.

I could stand, I'm on the electoral role, my election manifesto would be:

'Go and vote its perfectly free, do your bit and vote for me, if I get in I'll turn the town around, install some benches solid and sound, stop the waste and buying in haste, I'll support the BIP in all they do, and if you want to talk I'll listen to you. I'll work all hours to get it right and make the town a lovely sight, if it comes to a vote I won't abstain, I'll get in there and make sure the public gain. Even if you don't vote for me, please don't waste your vote because it comes completely free'

On a serious note, I hope someone gets in that is prepared to put in time and positivity, and do what's best for Helston and not just play at feeling important.
I think one of the best attributes for a Cllr is for them to listen to the public and respond one way or another to questions/queries, not just ignore the questions/queries of the public with an I know best attitude or back track and waffle about things. I get fed up with Cllrs that only want to talk and listen when they want your vote. I think a Cllr needs to earn respect not automatically expect it.
Good luck to the lucky one who is elected.

Oh by the way, don't mean to be picky, but Cllr Williams on Helston East Ward doesn't seem to have a contact email address on the TC website, has he not joined the 21st century?

I did agree with the comment Ron wrote recently, he said "there are some good HT Cllrs but quite frankly there are some that should try something else". I thought that was funny.
He shouldn't have stopped commenting, we all take insults from time to time and I think Gill should get an award for the amount of insults she's taken on here in the past. So come on Ron start posting again, don't be boring. If you promise not be prejudiced I'll even vote for you in the election. I know Gill didn't disrespect your comments, in fact she was the only one that backed you up at times. Meerkats never disrespected your comments either, you can't expect everyone to agree all the time.
Does anyone know how many are standing for the election? I won't be around but would like to know how it goes.

I do hope Ron will stand for this ONE
He might understand the process on this ONE
There is ONE vacancy
EveryONE, in that ward, will get ONE vote.

would anyONE like to take a guess how many votes he might get?

In the last Town Council election the person with lowest score to still be elected scored 333, therefore presumably Ron must have scored under that amount, exactly how many votes he received I cannot remember. I would imagine his total votes this time would be based largely on how well he promotes himself and if he leaflets every household and speaks to people. Additionally of course it could be dependent on how many other candidates there are and how many turn out to vote.

Ron got 258 votes in the last Town Council election, if that is any help.

I live in Helston and at one time i would have voted for Ron but not since pettergg and miss perfect have been commenting on.here because of the spellings i think it is Ron or his household and multi voting and the nature of the comments so i will be voting for anyone but him. I think you need to be pretty level headed and polite to be a Cllr. I dont think he is doing himself any favours, unless of course hes not going to stand now which i think would be good.

I Also think that Ron, petergg and miss perfect are either all ron or at least connected to him as its the same style of commenting , peter gg did not reply to a comment nor did Ron if i asked him anything, and i said on the benches article that their comments have spelling mistakes . If it is Ron it is silly behaviour as he chose not to comment anymore when he was "challenged" on his previous comment re the Mayor and the TC ,which he said he didnt say.,but it was in the Packet Archives. Does he expect votes in the election if it is him ,doesnt inspire confidence.

Yeah,333 out of total electorate of 7260 is less than 5%

27% turnout in the ward means ron don't have to mobilise many of his family and he'll get on

Hopefully there will be a much bigger percentage turn out this time to vote than previously, I gauge that public opinion is quite strong in the town at the moment. I won't be around for the lead up to it, I am out of the county from tonight working again but will be back to vote. Every vote counts. I won't now be voting for Ron I am afraid I've lost all respect.

I notice miss perfect seems to know about Ron and his family and what they would or wouldnt need to do for Ron to get elected. Once again they have the same spelling. Is there a basic lack of education in Helston? Or is it just miss perfects spelling and Rons and petergg and fred from helston?
