TV adventurer Monty Halls has chosen eight year old Mosh as the Eden Project’s first ever Best in Show at today’s Dogs’ Day Out.

Mosh, who lives in Cubert near Newquay with owners Rebecca Terry and her son Rowan, won the coveted rosette at Eden’s fun dog show, part of the project’s inaugural Dogs’ Day Out.

Monty chose the winners of each category in the show – best male dog, best female dog, best puppy, best veteran and scruffiest scruff – before putting the best in show decision to a popular vote.

Falmouth Packet:

Rebecca said: “We’re really happy to have won, especially since we weren’t expecting to win anything!”

Mosh was one of more than 150 canine chums who braved the rain showers to take part in the day’s doggy activities.

Monty, who brought his dog Reuben along for the day, also gave a talk and was on hand to answer questions and sign copies of his book, The Fisherman’s Apprentice.

Visitors and their dogs were also treated to a display from police dog handler Colin Harper and his dog Edie and a show from the Bodmin Dog Training club’s obedience team, who are due to give a demonstration at the world-renowned Crufts in March.

Bilbo, Cornwall’s first beach rescue dog, and his owner Steve Jamieson travelled from Sennen Cove to take part in the day and Mark Smith and his dog Nelson from Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service were also on hand to talk to visitors about their work.

Thousands of dogs have visited Eden since last June when, following a successful pilot, the project decided to relax its “no dogs” rule and allow them to enjoy the miles of paths within the former china clay pit.

Dogs are kept on leads and are not allowed in the Biomes or other buildings apart from the Visitor Centre.

Monty Halls is a writer, explorer, television presenter and public speaker.
