Falmouth’s plans to commemorate the 100th anniversary of when Britain entered World War I are moving forward, with the owner of the Arcs of Fire Gallery in Killigrew Street offering to stage an exhibition.

Not only has Mark Littlejohn volunteered to stage the Great War Centenary Exhibition, but he will also provide many items from his own extensive collection of pictures. The display will also feature armaments, trench art and photographs taken of Falmouth between 1914 and 1918 loaned by organisations, private collections and members of the public.

The exhibition is expected to open on August 4 and will hopefully run until the end of the month.

Councillor David Saunby, chairman of Falmouth Town Council’s Great War commemorations committee, said: “This is wonderful news to stage such an exhibition in Falmouth as a mark of respect not just for the fallen, but for those who survived ‘the war to end all wars’ and I am grateful to Mark Littlejohn for the use of his gallery.

“Cities, towns and villages across the length and breadth of Britain, are holding events to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Great War, and I would hope that this exhibition would also be educational to the children of the huge sacrifices made by their great-grandparents.

"I would also welcome, and be very grateful for any extra memorabilia (photographs, trench-art etc) linked to the Great War, that the residents of Falmouth would like to loan for this exhibition.”.

Anyone who would like to contribute to the exhibition should call David on 01326 315285.
