A high volume and pressure pump used by Cornish firefighters has been sent 'up country' to help tackle flooding in Somerset.
The Newquay based high pressure pump was drafted after a call yesterday evening by the Fire & Rescue Service National Co-ordination Centre based in London.
Cornwall Fire Control sent the pump to Somerset, as part of a major response to the devastating flooding affecting the area.
Newquay's High Volume Pump is one of ten that have been sent from around the country. They are currently at a strategic holding area near Taunton, awaiting deployment.
High Volume Pumps were purchased as part of a national project to better equip Fire & Rescue Services to deal with large-scale incidents including natural disasters and floods.
The pumps can be mobilised to incidents locally or, for a major incident elsewhere when needed.
