Celebrations have started at Geevor Tin Mine after last night’s win at the South West Tourism Awards ceremony in Plymouth.
The awards, which saw a record 350 entries, encompass the whole of the south west, stretching as far as Gloucestershire and Wiltshire.
Continuing Geevor’s winning streak this year adding to double gold and silver in the Cornwall Tourism Awards, the silver award in the small visitor attraction category was called a "fantastic achievement for the hard working staff, trustees and volunteers at the mine".
Geevor Tin Mine is managed by Pendeen Community Heritage, a registered charity which employs twenty two dedicated staff. It aims to conserve the unique heritage of Geevor, use the site for all forms of education and to create sustainable employment.
A Geevor spokesman said: "To have all the effort and continued support for Geevor recognised in such a way is a great honour and Geevor is now looking forward to finding out if they win an award in the national finals."
