There are just three days left for young artists in the Helston area to submit their entries in a competition to win free theatre tickets.

Youngsters under the age of 16 are being given the opportunity to draw a picture of one of the characters or a theme from the pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk for a chance to win five free tickets to the Helston Meneage Arts Players' production of the show later this month.

The winning drawing will also appear in the show's programme, which is being produced by the Packet.

The closing date for the competition is this Friday. Entries can be taken into the Helston Packet office in Wendron Street, Helston, or sent to the Packet head office at Falmouth Business Park, Bickland Water Road, Falmouth, TR11 4SZ.

The finishing touches are now being made during rehearsals for the production, which features a young and talented cast of 46 members, half of which are under the age of 18.

The cast includes Gary Hunt as Dame Trot, Gillian Geer as the Vegetable Fairy and Paul Blaber as King Petal.

The pantomime is being performed at the Epworth Hall in Helston nightly from January 24 to 27, as well as a matinee performance on the final day.

Ben Blaber, director, said: "The panto is full of great slapstick humour and magic to bring a smile to any face no matter what age. This year we are having lots of special effects, with some never seen in the Helston area before including the beanstalk growing live before the audience's eyes. It's a perfect treat to brighten up your winter blues."

For those not lucky enough to scoop the prize, tickets for the show are available to buy by phone on 01326 561636 or in person at Heathercraft in Coinagehall Street, Helston, with prices starting at £5.
