Ponsanooth Post Office will move into a temporary home after flooding on Christmas Eve left the premises under two foot of water.

The post office on St Michaels Road was forced to close due to severe flooding at the premises on December 24, and will move to a new temporary building on Tuesday, March 13.

This will be sited at Park Road, Ponsanooth, just 20 metres from the normal branch.

Opening hours at the temporary new location will be Monday to Friday: 09:00-17:30 and Saturday: 09:00-12:30.

In the interim the nearest alternative offices are:

• Perranwell Station Post Office, Perranwell Station, Truro, TR3 7PP

• Stithians Post Office, New Road, Stithians, Truro, TR3 7BJ

• Mabe Burnthouse Post Office, Mabe, TR10 9HG.

Colin Pound from the Post Office said: “We understand how important Post Office services are to residents in Ponsanooth and we are confident that this new temporary branch will meet the needs of the local community and secure services until a permanent solution can be put in place. We estimate it will take at least six months for the repair work to be completed.”

The village shop, which housed the Post Office, has also moved into an empty shop on a temporary basis.
