The organisers of the Porthleven Food and Music Festival say they been “overwhelmed” with generous raffle donations to help fund this year’s event, including a star prize of an original painting by artist David Hosking worth £650.

There were some initial concerns that this year it would be hard to fund the popular, free festival due to the lack of outside grants available for community events, but the generosity of local people and businesses, sponsorship and donations has put the event back on the calendar.

The fundraising raffle will take place in the Costcutter supermarket in Porthleven today, Wednesday, February 26.

The 30 raffle prizes, which are all donated by local businesses and artists, have a total value of more than £2,000 and also include a canvas by Waves Surf Art Gallery worth £395, family surf lessons at Dan Joel Surf School, a year’s coffee subscription by Helston based Origin Coffee and a voucher for No1 The Salon, Helston.

There is also fine dining at Porthleven restaurants Kota and The Square, a two-night stay in luxury B&B The Artists Loft, in Porthleven, pasties by post by Ann’s Pasties, handmade designer clothes and home ware from the Salt Cellar workshops and unique designer jewellery, paintings and ceramics by artists exhibiting in The Customs House Gallery to be won.

Louise Winterton, festival treasurer and owner of Customs House Gallery, Porthleven, said: “It is wonderful that people are being so generous as this year there is very little money available for community events. Speaking as a local business owner whose trade has been affected by the recent storms the festival will be a welcome boost to tourism in the area.”
