It may be six months away, but plans are already progressing well for this year’s Penryn Town Fair, which will celebrate its 35th anniversary in August.

Staying with the old favourites, the local band Falmouth Soul Sensation will be back for their fourth year, along with the popular slide which is usually situated at the top of Higher Market Street. The children’s roundabout will be at Fish Cross. New for this year will be Truro City Pipes and Drums, who will help kick start the event and be in tune with the Services/Forces theme for 2014, which sees the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War I.

Elsewhere, a double decker bus being donated by King Harry Ferry will house the Penryn community bingo group and James Dundon’s barrel organ will provide music at the Memorial Gardens where there will also be a Bucking Bronco and Punch and Judy shows.

Mark will be back with his amazing creepy crawlies, Swamp Circus will provide the street entertainment and South Devon Miniature Railway is on track to bring their miniature train to Penryn.

The Methodist Chapel will be hosting a flower festival and the museum will house a WWI display. Any owners of military vehicles are asked to get in touch with organisers if they would like to display them.

An appeal has also gone out for further support. Councillor Mary May said: “Over the years our stall holders have reduced in numbers, we would like to encourage stall holders, in particular charitable organisations, to support the fair. Stalls cost £10.”

Penryn Town Fair takes place on August 23 and to book a stall or find out more contact Helen at Penryn Town Council on 01326 373086 or mamay@cornwall.gov.uk.
