UPDATE: The Watering Hole is still standing proud this morning, although on an even smaller patch of sand, after a night of large waves and high tides.

The pub sent out this message on it's Facebook page today: "We survived the worst one yet, lets hope that is it for this year."

Falmouth Packet:

People were warned to stay away from pub on Perranporth Beach as the popular pub braced for what was feared would be its final battle against high tides and huge waves.

With the wind shifting to the north west, and combining with huge waves and high tides, there were fears that recent defences may not see out the next high tide as the shift in the wind to the NW today, it was in a "vulnerable position".

The sea moves inexorably closer ton Monday afternoon.

Falmouth Packet:

Workers had been shoring up defences with diggers shifting tonnes of sand in a bid to protect the pub.

Staff tweeted on Monday morning: "This mornings storm was like no other, the water was pressing up against the walls taking six foot of the bank away with a monster swell. The sea was powering up against the building gushing through the front. With winds turning to NW later and swells building through the day we are going to be faced with something quite spectacular."
