Brass band members from Mullion School have helped raise funds, and entertain the guests, at a special concert hosted by the village's Methodist church.

The pupils played a lunchtime concert covering a range of pieces as a whole group and small specialised groups, with any funds divided between the chapel and the Leprosy Mission Introduced by head of music, Georgina Davies, and accompanied on piano and trombone by Gareth Churcher, the concert was an opportunity for soloists to experience an audience and gain confidence.

Performers ranged from year 11 pupils Kim Bastion and Peter Richards, to year seven pupil James Scrimshaw playing 'Pavane' for his first solo in concert.

Other soloists were Matthew Monks, Ed Hosken, Adam Wilkin and James Bloomfield, with a duet from Joshua Gilbert and Joshua Monks.

After a “spirited and appropriate” start with Spitfire, the solos were interspersed with the brass group's 'Wade in the Water', while the senior brass group played their GCSE piece 'The Gael' from the film, Last of the Mohicans, arranged by Gareth Churcher.

The concert ended with 'Pastime with good company', with the band thanked by Lilian Watson, chapel steward, and applauded by an appreciative audience.
