Loss of Helston PCSO's a 'great shame'

First published in News

A letter is to be written to police chiefs from St Keverne Parish Council saying what a “great shame” any reduction in police community support officers would be.

Members will copy police and crime commissioner Tony Hogg into the letter, written in response to the news that two of Helston Police Station's PCSOs have been promoted.

It has yet to be decided whether they will be replaced, prompting councillor Bill Frisken to say it would be a great shame if they were not and there was a knock on effect of the Lizard Peninula's PCSO Julia Berry having to share her time out.

He said: “PCSO Berry has been a big help. I shall be very sorry if we lose our presence here on a parish council evening.

“I believe it's almost worth writing to the police force to say we're very sorry if we're going to dip out because of any cuts in the PCSOs here in the parish.”

I do hope the villages of the Lizard and Helston Town are not going to experience a retrograde move with police cover, I believe we were originally informed the last increase in the police precept was to safeguard neighbourhood policing, the police service is currently seeking another increase in council tax precept, I therefore hope for the rural villages and towns such as Helston which has no open police station to the public, that it will not be a case of pay up and receive less.
