Penryn’s residents were invited to the re-opening of the Stuart Stephens Memorial Hall following its recent refurbishment.

The hall, on West Street, was officially opened by former town mayor, Saracen Award winner, and hall trustee Lorna Smuda, following nine months of fundraising and restoration work.

Hall users, including local community groups such as Penryn Old People’s Club and Penryn Women’s Institute, set up stalls in the hall on the day, and there were light refreshments provided for visitors.

Penryn councillor Cait Hutchings, who attended the opening, said: “It has gone from being a cold building that was hard to heat to being heated, and decorated to a very high standard, with new rest rooms and kitchen.

“It’s a building that’s special to Penryn’s past and present generations.”
