DESPITE the grey skies, the sun still managed to pop its head out from behind the clouds for a few minutes on Suday to bathe the dancers from Mawnan Smith School as they celebrated the arrival of spring with Daffy Down Dilly Day.

The event at Trebah Gardens has become a tradition event for the school when the pupils perform a sequence country dancing.

The young dancers were accompanied as usual by accordion playing head teacher Randall Brook who serenaded his pupils as they danced in front of the grand house.

The tradition stems from the traditional rhyme: “Daffy Down Dilly has come to town, in a yellow petticoat and a green gown.”

The annual event was an opportunity for the neighbours of Trebah to enjoy the gardens in their full spring glory before the crowds arrive.
