Fundraisers at Porthleven & District RNLI are on the look-out for a chairman, a secretary and a Lifeboat Day secretary to help build on the success of recent years.

Following the AGM on March 10, the group is “extremely short of committee members to fill various positions” and are once again asking for interested people to get in touch.

Press officer for the group Jean Howard said: “We have a nucleus of volunteers who help out on Lifeboat Day when we always need extra help but from time to time some of these are unable to continue.

“We can manage without a large committee when we know we have the extra help needed when required but are now in need of a Chairman, a Secretary and a Lifeboat Day secretary. Our Chairman has stood down with immediate effect although will continue as Secretary until Lifeboat Day. Our Lifeboat Secretary will stay in position until Lifeboat Day. Both will then step down from the committee although both will be available when possible as volunteers. We are saddened by this news and thank them both very much for the sterling work they have done over the past few years.

“It is a very worthy cause and now not only saves lives at sea but through the RNLI lifeguards and flood rescue team it brings help in other ways.

She added that all those brave men and women put their lives on the line, but without the fundraisers none of this would be possible – not the best possible boats and equipment, the college where the training is second to none and now even the boats are being designed and built in-house.
