Helston wobbly bench repairs cost £237

Falmouth Packet: Helston wobbly bench repairs cost £237 Helston wobbly bench repairs cost £237

Repairs to the “wobbly” benches in Helston have cost £237.

Concerns were raised after 11 of the 13 new benches installed in Helston town centre at the start of the year came loose almost immediately.

Members were told that the problem could be that they only had two fixings per bench.

The council’s accounts show that £237 was paid for extra brackets to help secure the benches.

Waste of money, should have been done properly to start with. Surely it means youre paying a contactor to come out twice. Usually the more work you have done in one initial job, the cheaper it is. Do the people who voted for those Cllrs that waste money know what they have voted in? Too busy wasting time on unimportant things like political correctness. When i lived in Helston i voted for a decent town Cllr not a self serving rude know it all. Good thing the TC has good leadership and will continue with good leadership.

Oh dear, the saga continues!! Perhaps we need a rebellion to overthrow the HTC, or at least a couple of the members anyway. Enough money has been wasted!

At least the Town Council made a good decision and purchased some benches, and did not just sit on the fence with the money. I suppose the benches were a learning curve for the council. Looking on the bright side, having viewed them closely, I think they are all environmentally friendly, robust, good value for money, and worth keeping, so are the benches.

I'm alarmed at how so many benches came lose so quickly. Could we be barking up the wrong tree by blaming the fixings? An alternative explanation could be an obesity problem in the town... There is an abundance of pasty shops!
