A blue sky and bright sunshine welcomed visitors to Ruan Minor, where thanks to a record number of exhibitors they enjoyed the “ biggest show this century”.
The village hall was filled with more than 272 individual entries for the Grade Ruan Show, in addition to numerous entries from Grade-Ruan School, with the show opened by David Muirhead, MBE, who also presented the prizes.
The daffodil section attracted more than 115 entries and this, coupled with numerous entries in the cut flowers and pot plant sections, made a very bright, colourful and fragrant atmosphere. It also meant that Sheila Chandler had her work cut out with judging the impressive displays.
The daffodil section winners were David Endean and Johnny Trewin, who won the Mabel Basher cups for most points, with Rosemary Bray from Mullion winning the Harry London Cup for the best daffodil exhibit.
Mandy Pound from Coverack won the cut flowers and foliage section, while the Pot Plants cup was shared by Ann Fielder and David Endean.
Sarah Reed also face a difficult challenge in finalising the winners in a highly competitive floral and foliage arrangements section, with David Endean winning the Ruan Minor Village Hall cup. Judith Green won the Falconer Cup and Ann Fielder won the Hagenbach cup.
The art, photography and technology section, which included a new class for collections of historic postcards, was judged by local artist and fisherman Nigel Legge, with Linda Lewis winning the Committee Cup.
The cookery and preserves section was won by Frances Hosken from Mullion whilst Ali Russell won the Gladys Johnstone Cup for the best Grade Ruan resident.
Newcomers cups for first time exhibitors were won by Lorraine Wickens and the recently arrived Paul Ferrari.
The childrens section winners were Elizabeth Shearer, Mathew Price and Chloe Price, while Lauren Birchmore carried off the Teenager Cup.
The overall show winner was David Endean.
