Children enjoyed a spectacle full of whizzes, pops and bangs at Helston Community College as part of Science Week.

The school was visited by scientist Steve Glanville, a member of the Royal Society of Chemists, with his show Wonderful World.

Jon Hitchcock, head of science at the college, said: “It was a success. The show went down really well. It was an awe and wonder show aimed at capturing the imagination. There were a few explosions and some really gorgeous experiments. The most dramatic explosion was the hydrogen and oxygen creating water where you could feel the pressure wave.”

The show was arranged as part of Science Week, a national initiative promoting science through schools.

Mr Hitchcock said: “It helps to think outside the box and do experiments that wouldn’t lend themselves to the classroom.”
