Almost 380 children put their best foot forward on Saturday for the annual Coose Trannack Cross Country Run.

This saw youngsters spanning reception class age through to 16-year-olds competing in different categories of run through the Coose Trannack millennium woodland near Trannack School.

The youngest were challenged to run 900 metres while the eldest competitors faced a 3,600-metre course up steep inclines.

Runners came from 60 schools and running clubs all over West Cornwall.

Weather conditions remained relatively kind, with only a brief hail shower to hamper progress.

Organiser Dave Stott said: “I was impressed with the children and how far they ran. It was a brilliant day and we are very pleased. We achieved what we wanted to do.”

It is hoped the event raised around £1,500 profit for the primary school.

This was the first year the event has been organised by Mr Stott, who was helped by a group of volunteers included his wife Laura, Jakie |Jewell, Dawn and Drystan Jones, |Mick and Claire Morgan, Martin Tregenza, Katie Paterson, Emma Stritt, Suzy Morgan and the 35 other volunteers.

It was sponsored by Helston businesses Classic Cottages and At Your Pace, together with SW Forestry in Laity, with Wilkinson’s Falmouth, Sainsbury’s Helston, Tesco Helston, Morrisons Penzance and Trevarno Event Hire contributing. RNAS Culdrose helped provide equipment and manpower.

“Without this help we really would have had a struggle on our hands to make it such an enjoyable event for the children,” added Mr Stott.
