The date has been set for the first display by the spectacular Red Arrows in Falmouth this year.

The confirmed display time s 3.30pm on Saturday May 31 over Falmouth bay as part of the Pendennis Cup.

he Pendennis Cup is organised by Pendennis Shipyard and held every two years, welcoming a fleet of modern and classic 30m+ sailing yachts to Falmouth for four days of racing.

As the final race is completed the yachts will anchor off Gyllyngvase Beach at which point the Red Arrows will fly overhead, with the display visible from Pendennis Point and along the main town beaches.

Mike Carr, managing director, said: “Throughout the history of the Pendennis Cup local businesses, Falmouth town management and the public have been extremely supportive of our event and the shipyard. Recruiting the Red Arrows to provide a spectacular finish to the Pendennis Cup 2014 is a thank you from Pendennis Shipyard to everyone involved.”

This year’s regatta will see ten yachts follow a course from Falmouth to The Manacles stretching to Gul Rock off the Roseland, with the racing managed by the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club.

Richard Gates, town manager, said: “Falmouth has enjoyed seeing the Red Arrows visit Cornwall in previous years, and the bay certainly provides a different stunning backdrop for their display compared to the harbour during Falmouth Week. It is fantastic news for Falmouth that we are able to benefit from experiencing their extraordinary acrobatics twice in one year.”

The Red Arrows are scheduled to appear again on August 13 as part of Falmouth Week, although last year’s display was cancelled at the last moment because of the weather. The times of the two displays will be announced closer to the dates.
