Lifeboats from Falmouth and the Lizard were called on Friday night to reports of a yacht which had hit the Manacle Rocks off the Lizard peninsula.

At just after 10.30pm Falmouth Coastguard requested that both Falmouth Lifeboats, as well as the Lizard boat and a helicopter from Culdrose, be launched after the 27ft yacht Heron of Heybridge reported hitting the rocks and possibly taking on water.

However just before at 10.45 it was confirmed the situation on the yacht was found to have stabilised so the Inshore Lifeboat was sent to another incident in the Helford River.

The yacht had been on passage to Falmouth when a navigation error had caused it to hit the Manacle rocks. After floating clear of the rocks, the ingress of water was found to be minimal and the skipper motored clear of the immediate danger.
