After a difficult winter of storms Porthleven is making a song and dance about being open for business, by making their own music video.

Created on a “zero budget” it features various shopkeepers, restaurant staff and well known local figures singing along to Katrina and the Waves song Walking on Sunshine – except the words have been changed to “We’re open for business.”

Making special appearances are a number of fishermen, town councillors and even a giant lobster.

The film was made with the support of Porthleven Food and Music Festival and Half-Cut Cinema, a community film making project run by volunteers.

A spokesperson for the project said: “This winter, our coastal community was battered by some of the worst storms in living memory, but we pulled together, cleaned up and would now like to show the world that Porthleven is very much open for business.”

It includes footage from the harbour clean up following the storms, which broke the sea defences, plus the recent Lido Day that saw the harbour filled with costume-clad bathers and fun inflatable creatures.

David Turnbull, organiser of this year’s Porthleven Food and Music Festival, said he hoped it would be make viewers laugh and think about Porthleven as “a wonderful place” rather than just associated with storms.

This year’s festival will take place on Saturday, April 26.
