Residents at a care home in Falmouth, which achieved an overall performance rating of 908 out of 1000 in a national survey, agree with the findings and feel lucky to have such a secure and happy place to live.

Langholme in Arwenack Avenue is home to around 40 pensioners most of whom are in their eighties and nineties. They not only have a place to call home, but there is a timetable of activities they are invited to join in with, from quizzes and walks to skittles and gardening.

The residents even have four Peking bantams they help care for and which they hope to enter into local shows this year.

Pat Bagley, manager of Langholme, which is run by the national charity MHA, said: “We are delighted that residents are pleased with the care and support they receive. We aim to provide person-centred care which respects everyone as a unique individual and seeks to promote physical, mental and spiritual well-being.

“We are now taking this opportunity to say thank-you to our team of staff and volunteers and to see how we can build on this success to further improve our service.”

The nationwide survey, called Your Care Rating, questioned over 20,000 residents in 1,055 care homes across the country and its results provide a vital tool for families when choosing the right place for their loved ones.

Miriam Bishop, 92, is Langholme’s longest serving resident and couldn’t be happier. “It’s lovely here,” she said. “We are very lucky to be here.”

Effie Morgan agreed. “Having to be in a home at all, you couldn’t be in a better one than this one,” she said. “I really couldn’t be happier.”

Everyone will be able to see what makes Langholme so special when it takes part in the National Care Homes Open Day on June 20. The home also holds Methodist services every Sunday afternoon at 3.30pm which are open to all.
