Rotary club members paint the town white in Helston

With just three weeks to go until Flora Day the time has come to start making Helston look its best for its big day.
On the back of last year’s white washed walls project, which saw Helston-Lizard Rotary Club members repairing and repainting one of the town’s most prominent features, last week saw the club back out with their paint brushes.
The area around Coronation Park was the first to be tackled, with community chairman Chris Dale pressure washing the walls in preparation for painting by others. Thanks to the hard work last year very little repair was needed.
Chairman Ivor Mann said: “Last year as the walls had not been maintained for several years, it was necessary to carry out minor works including removal of ivy and similar weeds, filling cracks and holes, and pointing.
“This year there is less maintenance but still considerable cleaning and preparation.
“We have been blessed with a few dry, sunny days so Helston-Lizard Rotary Club members have been busy painting.”
Walls around the boating lake, St John’s Bridge and up towards the Masonic Hall and Cross Street were tackled on this occasion.
Over the next couple of weeks, the remainder of the whitewashed walls in Helston will be smartened up.
The club gave special thanks to the staff at the Park Café who kindly donated tea and coffee for the workers.
