Two people exploring near the wreck of the trawler Ben Asdale had to be rescued by Falmouth RNLI yesterday afternoon.

Just before 4.30pm Falmouth Coastguard requested the launch of the Inshore Lifeboat following reports of two persons cut off by the tide at Maenporth Cove, with the Falmouth Coastguard Cliff Rescue Team tasked to assist.

Falmouth |RNLI said: "The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 4.35pm and having crossed the bay arrived on scene off Maenporth Cove at 4.44pm. The casualties were located on the north side of the cove so the inshore lifeboat dropped its anchor and in a moderate swell veered in close enough to the rocks for the two casualties to be pulled on board the lifeboat.

"Once safely on board the inshore lifeboat recovered its anchor and headed into the beach where the casualties were landed into the care of the coastguard cliff rescue team at 5.11pm."

The pair had been exploring the rocks that lead out to the wreck of the trawler when they were caught by the rising tide.

Why do some people appear to think the tide goes out and does not come back in.
