The licensing consultative group of Helston has recommended the refusal of an application to play live or recorded music until 1.30am at Merchants, 15 Coinagehall Street.

The town council made the recommendation as it “was considered excessive”, did not state whether music would be amplified or not, and stated that there would be no outside music, although councillors believe there are speakers in the courtyard.

The application was also objected to on the grounds that if drinking were permitted in the car park, it could pose a risk to young people using a nearby public footpath.
