A quartet of Penryn and Falmouth residents has tackled a marathon in Paris to raise funds to help disabled people realise their sporting ambitions.

Richard Bannister, Laura Dancer, Rozanne Wakeling and Ruth Davis were amongst the 39,125 runners to take part in the Marathon de Paris on April 6, and raised money for ‘Get Kids Going’.

Richard said: “The conditions were very hot and it was tough going but considering I hadn’t done much training I was pleased to get around in four hours and 55 minutes.

“I ran the first half really well in just two hours and ten minutes but cramp at around 17 miles slowed me down quite a bit.

“It was a wonderful experience and we were delighted to raise funds for Get Kids Going because it’s such a worthwhile cause. It was my first marathon and I really enjoyed it. I look forward to running another but next time I visit Paris, I think I’ll chose a different way of enjoying the sights.”
