A group of young people referred from Penryn Job Centre Plus have graduated from the fire brigade’s Phoenix Project.
The six men and two women undertook a five day course at Falmouth Fire Station where they learned new skills and were encouraged to work together as a team.
The Phoenix Project has been run by the Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service since 2002 and has its headquarters in Falmouth.
It sees fire fighters give participants a taste of life in the brigade and its traditions through tasks such as hose running, wearing breathing apparatus and marching.
Those taking part also receive guidance in problem solving, teamwork, life skills and fire safety. Every participant is given the opportunity to gain an ASDAN qualification.
After working under real-life fire fighters for several days, the group from Penryn Job Centre Plus got to show off their news skills in front of a group of family and friends.
