Circulated by the police as wanted for stealing drink from shops in Truro and Falmouth, a female shoplifter was eventually located in Camborne in a heavily intoxicated state.

She was Katie Marie Mesley, aged 27, of no fixed address in Camborne.

At Truro Magistrates’ Court she pleaded guilty to stealing seven bottles of wine worth £48.93 and four cans of lager worth £14.24.

Interviewed by the police she said she had no recollection of either incident.

Mesley, whose previous convictions resulted in a prison sentence for shoplifting, had now stopped using heroin and was cutting down on her drinking, her solicitor Mark Charnley told the magistrates.

Mesley was given a prison sentence of four weeks suspended for nine months.
