Helstonians were treated to an early morning wakeup call today thanks to Helston Town Band.

Not many were complaining, however, as the strains of the Floral Dance roused residents from their slumber.

It was a reminder that Flora Day is exactly one week away – and the excitement is now really starting to grow.

The annual May Day walkabout from Helston Town Band has become almost as much a tradition as Flora Day itself.

While the majority of people were watching from their bedroom windows this morning, when the band repeats its walk this evening, from 7pm, there is likely to be larger crowds cheering from the pavements – and even some children and adults practising their steps for next week, by dancing along behind.

Although band members braved the drizzle this morning, conditions are expected to clear for this evening, with even some sunshine a possibility.
