Over 200 people visited Pedn Billy Garden on the Helford Passage raising over £1,500, making it the most successful single open garden event ever held in aid of Cornwall Wildlife Trust.

The weather cleared perfectly for a wander around this stunning 12 acre coastal garden on Sunday, April 27, and just the right conditions for enjoying a pasty or cream tea, provided by event supporters Crantock Bakery and Roddas. Apart from the garden there was also a chance to meet the celebrity bats brought along by Cornwall Bat Group.

Pedn Billy on the Helford Passage was the first of many gardens throughout the county where special fundraising days are being held during 2014 for Cornwall Wildlife Trust.

The money raised is vital for thetrust’s work protecting Cornwall’s wildlife and wild places.

Pedn Billy garden boasts wild flower areas, beautiful specimen trees and terraced borders, ancient woodlands, azaleas, magnolias, rhododendrons, camellias and flowering bulbs. Many even made their way along paths winding down to Port Navas Creek on the Helford River and a private beach.

Chris Betty, acting deputy head of marketing and fundraising for Cornwall Wildlife Trust said: “This was the most successful single open garden event ever held in aid of the Cornwall Wildlife Trust and we are very grateful to Pedn Billy and our amazing volunteer coordinators for the funds raised to help us keep protecting Cornwall’s wildlife and wild places.”

Two further gardens will be opening around this area in aid of Cornwall Wildlife Trust – Ethnevas Cottage in Constantine on Sunday July 6 and Trenarth at High Cross on Sunday August 24. Other gardens are opening in Hayle, Truro, Lanreath, Delabole, Bude, Crantock and St. Austell.
