Riders from as far afield as Devon jumped at the chance to take part in this year’s Helston Flora Horse Show.
Held as usual at Nansloe, by kind permission of the Benney family, it was a chance for experienced riders as well as younger ones learning the reins to compete amongst their peers.
Events took place over five show rings, beginning in the dry, with even a hint of sunshine, but by lunchtime the rain had set in which led to a rather wetter afternoon of competing.
Show secretary Lesley Rose said: “It was a good day and well supported – just a shame about the weather.”
There was a good number of entries in the British Show Jumping Event, which featured plenty of action and drama, and the working hunter event.
Although the ridden hunter entries were slightly down in the afternoon, the new classes introduced for ponies proved popular. Competitors travelled from as far as Devon and Bodmin, although the majority were local to West Cornwall area.
Winning the supreme champion trophy was Fiona Dymond on a cob, with Megan Ruberry as reserve champion on her pony Chywoon Valentino, which also took the pony championship. Andrew Williams won the ridden hunter championship on Toy Boy.
Mrs Rose added: “Thanks are due to everybody who helped to make the day go ahead.”
In particular she thanked the Benney family for the use of the field and all the judges for their work on the day.
