These are the first animals to be lining up two by two to take part in a pet show in Porthleven this Sunday.

Whether flamingos, elephants and lions will actually make it on the day remains to be seen, but there are sure to be plenty of dogs, rabbits and other furry friends at Porthleven Primary School between 11am and 4pm.

The family fun day and pet show, sponsored by Head and Head veterinary practice in Helston, is free to enter to families with a child at the school, while all non-pupils can enter their pet for £5.

Forms are available at The Top Chippy, Four Crows Gallery and the school.

Entry to the fun day is £1 for adults and 50p for children, to include a visit from Mark’s Ark, Punch and Judy, and Newquay Zoo Critters and Bugs show, with a balloon show also taking place.

Leigh Yates, who is helping to organise the event, said: “After the recent storm woes which battered Porthleven, we needed something to lift the spirits of the children and villagers.

“Sue Davis came up with the ‘barking’ idea of a community pet show and family fun day, then Head and Head came on board with The Top Chippy to sponsor the day.

“We have invited all the schools in our trust to come and enjoy Porthleven hospitality and have fun as a family, or even just bring your cat!”

All the money raised will go towards a new science, cookery and art studio for the children – an £18,000 facility that has been donated by construction company Interserve and their clients. Interserve has agreed to build and supply all materials for the project, with the school having to just equip it.
