A well-known Helston business owner married in a packed ceremony on Saturday.

Wesley Bowden, who owns Bowden’s Home Hardware in Market Place, issued an open invitation to the town to join him and his bride Lynn Constance Gerrell when they wed at Helston Methodist Church.

The result was a full church of well-wishers for the service, led by Methodist minister Rev Danny Reed.

The bride entered to Bach’s Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring played by Sarah Chaplin, before the congregation sang popular wedding hymn Love Divine.

Other hymns included Make Me a Channel of Your Peace, In Christ Alone and finally the rousing Great is Thy Faithfulness to end the ceremony.

Prayers were led by Pastor Michael Bretton, of Helston Light and Life Church, and Bible readings came from Marie Levy (John 2:1 – 11) and Shirley Wearne (1 Corinthians 13).

During the signing of the register there were songs from Benjamin and Thomas Reed, Mr Reed’s sons who are members of the Truro Cathedral Choir, Christine Cumber, and Margaret Green and Dennis Harry.

The happy couple left the church to the sound of Widor’s Toccata played by Nigel Dower.

Ahead of the service there was 45 minutes of communal singing, of hymns and Cornish songs such as Lamorna. Afterwards guests were invited back downstairs to the chapel hall for pasties and cream teas.

The evening reception then took place at the Light and Life Hall, where there was a buffet.

The couple are now on a two-week honeymoon, travelling around the UK.
