Police are hunting for a man who punched a young mum twice in the face during an attempted robbery.

The 24-year-old woman was walking with her baby in a pram when she was approached by a man on the footpath between Clease Road and Llewellyn Close in Camelford.

Police say he demanded money from her but when she refused he grabbed her arm and punched her twice in the face.

The offender then rummaged around in the pram looking for money before making off empty-handed towards the High Street.

The woman, from Camelford, sustained bruising to her arm and face during the incident which happened around 1pm on Monday, May 12. The baby was unharmed.

Police say the suspect is white, aged early to mid 30s, between 5ft 6in and 5ft 8ins tall and of medium build. He was generally unkempt of appearance with dark brown medium length greasy hair and facial stubble, and spoke with a local accent.

He was wearing a long-sleeved black hoody, dark blue jeans with ripped knees, light brown work boots and had a tattoo of large lettering on his right forearm.

Police are also appealing for witnesses to the incident; anyone with information is asked to contact them on 101, quoting crime reference BC/14/156.
