A man is critically ill in hospital after being found seriously injured on a Newquay street.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the injured man was discovered lying in Fore Street shortly after 4am on Saturday after hitting his head on the kerb.

The man in his 30s, believed to be Spanish and living in Newquay, was taken to Derriford hospital with a head injury where he remains in a critical condition.

Detective Sergeant Daniel Massey, from the local investigation team, said: “We are trying to establish exactly what happened before he was found lying in the road.

“He is not believed to have been assaulted but officers are appealing for anyone who saw an incident in the area at the time to get in touch.”
