The mayor may have only been in Helston’s top job for three days but Mike Thomas has already added £550 into his charity pot.
Mr Thomas, together with his wife Briege as mayoress, held a dance at the Godolphin Club.
The aim was to kick-start their term of office and also their fundraising for Helston Community Hospital League of Friends and the Helston Enterprising and Deserving Young People's Fund supporting the dreams of young people in the town.
Mrs Thomas said the event was “successful beyond our expectations.”
She added: “It was great seeing so many people enjoying themselves, reliving their teenage years.”
There was even a “Flash Flora Dance,” which saw people pairing up to dance around the room to the famous tune, which Mrs Thomas described as “just magical.”
Raffle prizes included a £50 shopping voucher donated by SERCO and a food hamper from Tesco.
Their next fundraising dance will be the Mayor's Summer Dance on Friday, July 18, once again in the Godolphin Club.
