Following the unveiling of a planned nine-metre oyster sculpture for Falmouth waterfront, the Packet asked businesses what they thought, and the response was favourable.

Rhys Pollard, joint owner of Tidemill Deli on Events Square, said: “Great idea. Adds dimension to the square, a focal point and a talking point that reflects the traditional and the modern in Falmouth."

Paul Harvey, manager at Zizzi's, also on Events Square, said: “I like the idea that it will bring people to the area. The proposed location is great as it will also bring more awareness to the memorial that is already there whilst highlighting the local oyster industry and community.”

Mike Rangecroft, director of Falmouth Festivals, said: “It's stunning. The proposed scale of it puts it in a similar bracket to the Angel of the North and Whicker Man in Somerset. As organisers of Falmouth Oyster Festival we would be proud to have it as a centrepiece to the area.”

Nigel Carpenter, director of St Michaels Hotel and Spa, said: “It's absolutely sensational, very exciting and very appropriate.”
