Two Penryn bars will be hosting a mini festival celebrating local drinks and pasties over the bank holiday weekend.

The Thirsty Scholar pub and Number 20 bar will open their Cornish Ale, Cider and Pasty festival from May 23 to 26, supported by Penryn brewery Rebel Brewing Company.

They will be providing live music, comedy, and Penryn's first 'world pasty eating competition', as well as holding a fundraiser quiz on Friday night for mental health charity Invictus Trust.

There will be over twenty beers and ciders to try, as well as a wide variety of pasties, including a Cornish crab and clotted cream variety.

Event organiser David Tayler said: "At one time, there were more than thirty breweries here in Penryn, so we feel it is very fitting that we should be celebrating such a range of Cornish ales and ciders here in the town - a sort of revival of ancient traditions which we hope will be well supported so as to become a regular event.”
